Paul Todd passed away on 20th March 2011 aged 72 years. Paul joined Mansfield Chess Club in 1966 and was a regular member of their 2nd team. In 1973 he was elected Honorary Secretary of the Notts Chess Association and held the post for four years. Over this period he regularly represented Nottinghamshire as a member of the county 2nd team. Later he joined Ashfield Chess Club and represented the club lower teams over a number of years as a player and as team captain for two years; he was a member of the the 4th team who were promoted in 2010/11. Paul was a solicitor and a partner in the Mansfield based firm of Hopkins before his retirement. After retiring Paul also took part in large number of weekend congresses. Paul’s last game was a win in October 2010 ; failing health kept him away from chess though he paid a last visit to Ashfield Chess Club a few weeks before he died.
