Ashfield Anonymous “A” 4 Trelawny’s Army 0
There were three very different challenges in the 7th and final round of 4NCL on-line. Trelawny’s Army is a Cornish based team named after a local Bishop who denounced James II and was sent to the Tower of London. There’s a lot more about him but unfortunately turning to chess the Cornishmen fielded a weak side and were duly demolished. Anonymous move into the play-offs with a 100% score.

A different scenario for the “B” team. They needed a point from their last game to ensure they maintained their Division Two place. Even if they had lost it would have taken an unlikely set of results for this to occur. As it was there was a further whitewash for us though the Scottish team did put up some resistance before they succumbed without a game point.
Ashfield Anonymous “C” 3 Hertford 1
Back to promotion and play-offs in this Division Three match. A draw was required to ensure this and soon we had established a 2-0 lead with the Black pieces. The match was then decided after no progress could be achieved by our opponents in the remaining games which both ended in draws. Although finishing on equal points with Wells, their superior game score means that they take first place.
