Ashfield Anonymous field three teams in the 4NCL Online. The 10th season is being played over seven rounds leading up to semi finals and finals just before Christmas.
Ashfield Anonymous “A” started with a win over Oxford 3 who defaulted a board which resulted in a penalty ½ point deduction. Although Steve lost we had a relatively easy win from David on Board One after the Oxford player trapped his own queen. Board Two was halved after exchanges meant we could make no progress in an opposite colour bishop ending. We are the strongest team based on ratings in this side of the draw; no other team was rated above 1900.
Result Ashfield Anonymous “A”: 2½ – Oxford 3: 1
Ashfield Anonymous “B” on the other hand faced the strongest rated side in Division Two, Lenzie Basilisks, whose average is 2000+ plus. David and Phil halved their games however the other games went the way of the ratings with a 3-1 loss for us.
Result Ashfield Anonymous “B”: 1 Lenzie Basilisks: 3
Ashfield Anonymous “C” lost narrowly to English Deaf CA. There was a good win by the reliable Eldars but the match was tied at 1 1/2- 1 1/2 with Bob losing and John halving. The result then hinged on the Board One game which was the most interesting of the day and well worth a look. Andy eventually lost a tactical game where his opponent managed to keep on going even whilst short of time in a complex position.
Result Ashfield Anonymous “C”: 1½ English Deaf Chess Association: 2½
