After eight successive wins, Ashfield came up against Scottish side Lenzie Basilisks, winners of Group “B”. Without top board David Coates, the Ashfield team still had four players who had carried the team to this stage. However some expansive play on Board One coupled with blunders on Board Three meant two Ashfield losses with the White pieces. World Number 9 for his age (10), Supratit Banerjee is playing in a grandmaster tournament in Spain but he still found time to appear on Board 2 for Lenzie and score their third win. Team captain Richard Truman saved a whitewash by halving on Board Four. Season 11 commences in January and with a promotion to Division One , it will be tough going for the “A” side.
