Ashfield Anonymous “A” 2½ – Beckenham 1½
We continued to maintain our 100% record with a third 2½-1½ victory. An early loss exerted some pressure especially after the top board ended in a perpetual. Needing to win the remaining boards, Justin won after being down in the opening, leaving Richard to secure the points with a strong attack against his opponent’s exposed king.
Ashfield Anonymous “B” 1½ – Shropshire & Friends 2 – 2½
Another disappointing night where we were comprehensively beaten on the middle boards going 2-0 down. No progress was made on Board Four which was drawn leaving Graham to soldier on into a bishop of opposite colour ending a pawn up. Black crumbled in time pressure when the advanced White King penetrated the Black defence.
Ashfield Anonymous “C” 3 – Atticus 1
Andy held their highly rated top board for a considerable time. The bottom board finished after a one-move blunder by our opponents, whilst Eldars active queen and knight were superior to the White’s 2 rooks and stranded knight. An open g-file and control of g7 gave Benji a win with Black checkmated in all variations at the end.
